Background of the Study

Traditional rulers have historically played pivotal roles in political leadership, serving as custodians of culture, mediators, and advisers in governance. In Nigeria, the involvement of traditional institutions in political processes has evolved, with their influence extending to local administration and conflict resolution (Bello & Garba, 2023). In Kontagora Local Government Area (LGA), the Emirate Council represents a critical interface between traditional authority and modern governance. However, debates persist about the relevance and limits of traditional rulers’ roles in the contemporary political landscape (Abdullahi, 2024).
